Hoya Solokensis is only known from the type locality in Solok, Sumatra, Indonesia, at an altitude of about 1000 m asl. Collected in evergreen forests, where it grows epiphytically, and is one of the few Hoya species that exhibits a non-climbing habit but is an epiphytic shrub. Hoya solokensis only has a staminal corona, spreading lobes and the Hoya solokensis flower at a glance is similar to Hoya hamiltoniorum AL Lamb, Gavrus, Emoi & Gokusing (Lamb et al. 2014) because both species have free parts of the spreading corolla lobes, but Hoya hamiltoniorum is a plant the climber and the inner crown lobe are bifid, whereas the apex of the inner lobe of Hoya solokensis is entire.
